FAQ
Everything you'd probably like to know.
If your question isn't here, ask on the intro call — it's what the 30 minutes are for.
Getting started
How do I book a first session?▾
Book a free 30-minute intro call from the Book page. There's no referral required, no waiting list, and no obligation to continue after the intro call.
Is the intro call really free?▾
Yes — genuinely free. It's 30 minutes, held over Microsoft Teams, and exists so we can meet and decide together whether we're a good fit before you spend anything.
Do I need to know exactly what I want to work on?▾
No. Plenty of clients arrive with 'something's not right' rather than a diagnosis or a plan. Part of what we do in early sessions is figure out what's underneath that.
Fees & packages
How much do sessions cost?▾
Individual sessions are £75, relationship sessions £140, and same-week acute support £100. Packages of 4 sessions (10% off), 3 months / 12 sessions (15% off), and 6 months / 24 sessions (20% off) are available on individual and relationship work.
Can I pay in Euros?▾
Yes. The site prices in Pound Sterling but you can toggle a live conversion to EUR and other major currencies. Final charges settle in GBP or EUR via Stripe, and the checkout shows the exact amount before you pay.
Do you offer a sliding scale?▾
Yes, on request and where I have the capacity. Please mention it on the intro call — nobody is turned away from an intro call for lack of funds.
How does payment work?▾
Intro calls are free. For paid sessions, your slot is held for 24 hours while a secure Stripe payment link is emailed to you. Payment is held (not fully taken) until your counselling contract is completed.
Sessions & format
How are sessions held?▾
All sessions are online via Microsoft Teams. You'll receive the video link with your confirmation email and again with each reminder.
How long is a session?▾
Individual sessions are 50 minutes, relationship sessions 80 minutes, acute support 50 minutes, and intro calls 30 minutes.
How often should we meet?▾
Most therapeutic work benefits from weekly sessions in the first phase, with the option to space out as we go. We'll talk about cadence in the intro call and revisit it as your needs change.
Cancellation
What's your cancellation policy?▾
Your first paid session has a 24-hour free-cancellation window. From your second session onwards this moves to 48 hours — I'll make sure this is flagged clearly when your second session is booked so it's never a surprise. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged in full.
What if I need to reschedule?▾
Reschedule anytime from your client area, subject to the same cancellation window. If something urgent comes up inside the window, get in touch — I handle emergencies case-by-case.
For gay and bi men
Will I have to explain or defend my identity?▾
No. Your identity, orientation, and relationship aren't things you'll need to translate or justify here. We spend the time on what you actually came for.
Do I have to be fully out to work with you?▾
No. Clients arrive at every stage — fully out, partially out, or telling someone for the first time in this room. Discretion is part of the service: invoices and calendar items are worded neutrally so nothing about the appointment identifies it as therapy.
Can we do work in a language other than English?▾
Sessions run in English. Where clients speak English as a second language, I move at a pace that gives room for that — and I'm comfortable with clients switching to a native word or phrase when English doesn't fit.
Confidentiality & GDPR
Is what I say confidential?▾
Yes, with the limits UK counsellors are legally and ethically bound by: risk of serious harm to yourself or others, safeguarding of children or vulnerable adults, and legal disclosure orders. The counselling contract covers this in detail.
How is my data stored?▾
The Great Thriving LTD is registered with the ICO. Data is processed in the UK/EU with encryption at rest and in transit. You can request access, correction, or deletion of your data at any time via the Privacy Policy.
Do you keep session notes?▾
Yes — brief, GDPR-compliant clinical notes, kept for the period required by BACP and UK data law, then securely destroyed. You can request a summary of what's held about you.
Credentials
What are your qualifications?▾
First-Class Honours BSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy, three years of practice experience, registered with the BACP (Registration Number 407828), fully insured for international tele-practice, and ICO-registered.
Can I claim sessions on health insurance?▾
Some UK and European insurers reimburse BACP-registered private practice; policies vary. Bring your policy number to the intro call and I can help you check what's covered.
Tech & timezones
What if my internet drops mid-session?▾
Reconnect once — I'll wait. If the connection can't be restored within 10 minutes we finish by phone or reschedule the remainder at no extra cost.
How do timezones work?▾
The booking page shows times in your local timezone automatically. When we book, both your timezone and mine (UK) are locked into the calendar invite so daylight-saving shifts don't catch us out.
Can sessions sync with my personal calendar?▾
Yes. From your client area you can subscribe to a personal calendar feed that syncs your sessions to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, or any calendar app that supports iCal — cancellations and changes flow through automatically.
Crisis & suitability
Is this suitable if I'm in crisis?▾
Online private counselling is not a crisis service. If you're at immediate risk to yourself or others please contact your GP, A&E, or a crisis line (Samaritans 116 123 in the UK/Ireland). Acute-support slots are for same-week distress, not psychiatric emergencies.
What if I need a psychiatrist or medication review?▾
Counselling and psychiatry are complementary. If medication or a formal diagnosis is part of your care, I work alongside your GP or psychiatrist and can help you think through what to bring to those appointments.
